Groß Pankow. An exciting chapter in the history of the Juri Gagarin primary school has started! The construction work has officially started, and the community faces a huge project that should not only relieve the current school, but could also improve the children's education.

Currently 145 pupils attend this crowded primary school and the occupancy can hardly be mastered. "We are fully busy," confirms the building manager Martin Nagel. The plan provides for the construction of a new building with eight classrooms and weather-protected after-school care rooms. The first excavators are rolled up in July and the base plate for the new school building is now being cast. Nagel assures that you are fully on schedule and that the new premises should be ready for occupancy in mid -2026.

The existing hoard has now been housed in containers, which is only one of the emergency solutions that have had to be used in recent years. But the expansion will not only consist of new classrooms. A newly designed outdoor area with modern play options should make the school yard a real learning and experience room! Despite all the construction work, school operations remain undisturbed because the old building is only slightly rebuilt. "The lessons remain unchanged," emphasizes Nagel.

Gigantic Cost: School cultivation in Groß Pankow costs 5.8 million euros!

The mammoth task has its price-an impressive 5.8 million euros must be applied for this mega expansion! This means a significant burden for the municipality of Groß Pankow. With increasing costs and moving other projects, financing is a wire rope act. Funding has been waiting for funding since 2021 and it has only been clear since February 2023: the project is funded. Nevertheless, the municipality has to raise well over two million euros, you can imagine how much this burdens the household!
