Nature conservation associations are calling for the construction plans in the Emmauswald!
A dramatic outcry of the nature conservation associations shakes Berlin-Neukölln! In an urgent open letter to the Senate Administration, you will request the immediate stop of the controversial construction plans on the site of the Emmauswald, a former cemetery. 440 condominiums are to be built here, but the environmentalists are alarm: This place is a valuable retreat for humans and animals!
A committed residential initiative has been fighting against the construction project for two years, which threatens the green oasis in the densely populated environment. City Councilor Jochen Biedermann (Greens) had already pointed out that this forest was the largest in Neukölln, which caused the district assembly to stop the development plan procedure. But the Senate has resumed the procedure and the waves hit up!
resistance to the construction plans
The nature conservation associations vehemently argue that a species -rich biotope for mouse bus, bats and butterflies was created on the approximately four hectare area. Janna Einöder from NABU Berlin emphasizes: "During this time, a lot has happened: Not only for the people in Neukölln, the green -close green has decreased enormously, retreats and habitats for animals and plants are also disappearing more and more." The requirement is clear: the Senate must recognize and protect the Emmauswald as a valuable green area!
Manfred Schubert from the Berlin State Working Group Nature Conservation (BLN) asks the government factions to rethink their decision for the construction project. Dirk Schäuble, nature conservation officer at the federal government, adds that the state policy apparently does not show any interest in sustainable urban development. Time is pushing and the Emmauswald is on the brink!
