Christmas tree trend: decorate earlier, less work!

The Christmas tree – an undisputed symbol of the festive season. According to a recent survey, it is still very popular in Upper Austria: eight out of ten residents have a Christmas tree in their living room. Upper Austrians are particularly fond of the Nordmann fir. The prices for a running meter this year are between 22 and 27 euros, like orf.at reported. While many shoppers appreciate the selection at the start of December, many tend to finalize their purchase just before Christmas. Six out of ten Upper Austrians prefer a real tree made of wood, while the artificial tree is becoming more and more fashionable, according to Susanne Eidenberger, managing director of a garden center in Leonding. “The artificial Christmas tree is a wonderful way to put up a tree a little earlier and you also save yourself the work of having to dispose of the Christmas tree after Christmas,” explains Eidenberger.

In addition, a representative survey by the “Statista” portal shows that Christmas trees are increasingly being put up earlier in German households. This year, 30 percent of those surveyed said they put up their tree at the beginning of December - significantly more than five years ago, when only 18 percent did so. Around 28 percent prefer to put up the tree in mid-December, while 29 percent decorate it just a few days before Christmas Eve. The Americanization of German living traditions is discussed here, as many people in the USA bring their trees into their homes right after Thanksgiving. The survey also found that many Germans keep their tree as a constant companion into the new year, in contrast to previous traditions in which the Christmas tree was only put up the day before Christmas Eve and decorated shortly afterwards blick.de explained. The shift in this tradition is an indication of the changing approach to Christmas customs and celebrations today.
