Merz, on the other hand, sounds diplomatic when he emphasizes that cooperation is essential - but under this diplomatic coat a political powder barrel is bubbling.

minority government as a joker in the AS?

A political calculation is shown in Thuringia, where the CDU has received an unexpected alliance with the left party to maintain the wall towards AfD. Such an establishment with the controversial alliance of Sahra Wagenknecht could also enable new alliances at the federal level. Merz could try to implement this method of minority government at the national level - a risky but possibly successful move.

If Merz should consider this path, it could radically change its negotiating position towards the Greens and the SPD. A threat of always being open to alternative alliances could tear the current political center out of its inertia. That would be a strategy in which Merz could really show that he is not only talking, but also ready to act accordingly.
