Klimabonus in danger: Tirol's governor announces massive changes!

In the current political discussions about the Tyrolean state government, Governor Anton Mattle (ÖVP) takes on clear positions on important topics such as the climate monus and educational leave. According to Mattle, who expressed his views in an interview with the crown, the coalition negotiations between the ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS should be completed by mid -January 2025. He sees a potential triple coalition positively, but warns of the challenges of a coalition of two with the SPÖ. In particular, the abolition of the climate monus and the existing educational leave brings enormous savings that, according to Mattle, could be around 2.6 billion euros annually. The demand that there should not be state subsidies for each issue shows its determined attitude towards future reforms.

The Klimabonus should not only be financial support for the citizens from Mattle, but also considers it to be "neither accurate nor socially just", as he notes in the Tyrolean daily newspaper. Mattle suggests converting the income from CO2 taxation into a general federal tax, which would bring Tyrol an additional 30 million euros. This could be the beginning of a concerted effort to consolidate the public sector and boost the economy. While Mattle emphasizes that people need no alms from the state ', he harvested the resentment of Greens and FPÖ for these suggestions, which are considered politically irrelevant and populist. Green National Councilor Barbara Neßler expressed that the plan may have been going to a hidden tax increase. FPÖ state party chairman Markus Abwerzger also criticized the perceived double standards of the ÖVP.

criticism of federal politics

Mattle considers the demand for a climate bonus to be outdated. In a clear statement, he emphasizes: "The state must be a possible maker instead of a grant." This should not only strengthen the economic situation of Tyrol, but also the efficiency of the state government. In view of the financial challenges of the federal states and communities, Mattle underlines the need for structural reforms and a responsible financial policy. He also did not categorically exclude the possibility of collaboration with the FPÖ, but underlined that Herbert Kickl's program at the federal level was not portable for him.
