Urgent coalition poker: Time pressure for budget negotiations is increasing!

Österreich - The government negotiations in Austria are under immense pressure. As OE24 , an agreement between the coalition partners ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos must be reached. A decisive meeting of the "technical budget group" took place on Friday, in which three employees each came together to clear up existing issues. Above all, urgency is high: On January 21, the EU Commission will decide on a possible deficit procedure against Austria, which is why a sustainable budget draft must be presented until then.

The negotiators face huge challenges, especially with regard to savings plans. According to information from the negotiation, there is already a list of concrete savings that, among other things, provides for the deletion of the climate monus and other funding. This strongly depends on whether the ÖVP is ready to allow cuts in its clientele. A negotiator expressed that it was crucial whether this willingness to drive the “traffic light” project.
