Climate change: Professor from Dansenberg shows how we can act!

Dansenberg, Deutschland - "Climate change is there and we cannot stop it! But we can cope with it!" These haunting words come from Gereon Niedner-Schattburg, professor of physical chemistry at the RPTU. After his return from a startled conference in Berlin , where the future of our climate was in focus, Niedner-Schattburg is determined to set a sign. If the weather allows it, he goes on foot from his place of residence dansenberg to university and back-a personal contribution to combating the climate crisis!

But the professor warns: "To cope with the climate crisis, all disciplines and social actors have to work together!" The message must be carried into the broad society. "How can we convey climate change and its devastating consequences when we constantly deal with other topics such as the household hole or the Ukraine war?" Time is forced, and Niedner-Schattburg emphasizes the need for a comprehensive information: "We can not only consider the costs for one liter of gasoline. The social costs of the emitted carbon dioxide are at least twice as high as the purchase price!"

"Germany as a pioneer"

He speaks of the devastating consequences of heavy rain, hurricanes, crop failures and the associated migration movements. "The underlying numbers are complex, but one thing is clear: it costs money!" Despite the dark prospects, Niedner-Schattburg remains optimistic: "Germany is observed by the whole world! We are the engineering world champions-if we manage to preserve our prosperity and at the same time to combat climate change, other countries will follow. Germany has the chance to take a pioneering role!"
