Youth strategy Tirol 2030: More participation and protection against fake news!

Berlin, Deutschland - Austrian politics reacts to the current challenges of youth and sets a strong signal with the new “Youth Strategy Tirol 2030”. Youth Councilor Astrid Mair (ÖVP) announced that several important topics, including the improvement of media literacy and the recognition of fake news, are placed on the agenda. Mair said that an online questionnaire for young people is available by the end of March, the results of which should form the basis for prioritization of topics. This was announced during a press conference in the country house. Mair emphasized that it was important not to talk about the young people, but with them to anchor their voice more in politics. The strategy includes the introduction of a “youth card” that is supposed to offer discounts for young people, as well as the review of the existing Youth Act, especially with regard to new trends such as laughing gas and nicotine bags. According to tirol.orf.at the first implementations, such as the Youth Card in the form of an app, and the planned youth state day are still on the program this year.

influence of young people on politics

The votes of the young people are also asked at the federal level: At the Federal Youth Conference in Berlin, over 200 participants between the ages of 14 and 27 had the opportunity to talk directly to politicians and experts. Topics such as voting from 16 or the role of UN youth delegates have been discussed. Participants such as Silja (16) and Eleanna (17) from Offenbach emphasized the importance of this platform to strengthen the commitment of young people in society. Workshops on topics such as "youth -friendly communication" made it clear that young people want more information on their preferred social platforms and need easier language in order to better understand political content. These findings will flow into the development of the national child and youth plan to improve the "youth strategy" of the federal government. Like bundes-regierung.de , the participants also got intensively involved in the field of sensitization for fake news and disinformation in order to promote media literacy in youth.
