Big detours: 75 minutes longer travel times for travelers to Hanover!
Deutsche Bahn has announced that it will start extensive renovation work on the ICE route between Hamm and Hanover from October 11th. This work that lasts seven weeks leads to significant changes in long -distance transport. Especially in the first week, travelers have to plan additional time, since trains are redirected on this heavily frequented route. It is recommended to search for changes in the timetable in good time, since the diversions can be a challenge for many commuters.
The railway is investing around 90 million euros in the modernization of the rail network, with 35 kilometers of tracks being renewed between Hamm and Ahlen. State -of -the -art technology is used, including a 650 -ton track conversion train, which can replace the old rails and thresholds as well as the gravel in a single process. In addition to the tracks, two bridges are also repaired, which makes the entire route more secure and reliable.
Additional travel times for travelers
The effects of the construction work are significant: from October 11th, the travel time of the ICES between Hamm and Hanover is expected to be extended by 60 to 75 minutes. Trains are diverted via alternative routes without intermediate stops, so that numerous cities such as Bielefeld, Gütersloh, Herford and Minden are not approached during this phase.
after the first week, which lasts until October 18, there will be minor restrictions by November 29. Although long -distance trains then keep back in Herford, the detours continue to extend the travel time by 5 to 30 minutes. In addition, Intercity trains from Leipzig already end in Hanover and do not continue to Cologne or Frankfurt as usual.
The construction work is part of a larger renovation plan that is necessary to reduce the years of renovation backlog in the rail network. This lack of maintenance is the main reason for the frequent delays and unreliability in rail traffic. Numerous cities will be affected by similar modernization projects in the coming years to improve the quality and safety of rail transport.
