Lohr, Deutschland - Walter Kunkel, a renowned carpenter and businessman from Lohr, celebrates his 90th birthday on January 13, 2025. Born in Lohrer Bahnhofstrasse, Kunkel grew up in his father's carpentry, founded in 1945, Karl Kunkel, whom he later took over. In 1952 he passed the journeyman's exam with very good success and acquired the master examination in carpentry two years later, at the age of 21,
From 1945 to 2002, the carpentry trained a total of 47 apprentices. In 1962 Walter Kunkel married Gerda Samfaß, who supported him both in work and in life. The couple has three children: Karin, Gerhard and Michael, as well as five grandchildren. In 1965 Kunkel opened a converted furniture store on Vorstadtstraße and took over the carpentry of his late father in 1975, which he headed until 2002. Kunkel's engagement in society and culture of his hometown was remarkable over the years.

Walter Kunkel has received multiple awards for his services. In 1993 he received the tent badge on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the "Fidelia" Lohr. In 1996 he was awarded the district medal in gold. He has been an honorary member of the Main-Spessart carpenter guild since 2002 and was honored by the Chamber of Crafts for 50 years in 2006. His services to the common good were recognized by the city of Lohr in 2014.
Kunkel entered the singing club "Fidelia" in 1893 Lohr in 1948 and led it for 32 years. He was also a co -founder of the choir community "Fidelia" Lohr and "Liederkranz Rothenbuch". In 2018, he received a certificate of honor for his 70 years of active singer activity. He was also active in the Board of Directors of the Kolping Family for many years and came up with the founding member of the Spielmannszug 1957 and as a co -founder of the men's ballet of the Lohrer Mopper.
Festive events on his 90th birthday are already planned. On January 24, a thanksgiving service will take place in the parish church of Weibersbrunn, in which his grandson Christoph Gerhard will assist the celebrant. The Chamber of Crafts reported on the importance of the master examination in the craft. This is a prerequisite for self -employment in 53 handicrafts subject to admission and also offers opportunities for further professional development in admission -free crafts. The master's examination consists of four parts that can be completed independently of one another.
