The new board of the child and youth parliament in Charlottenburg was elected!
In the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, the Children's and Youth Parliament (KJP) chose its new management team. Luiza Podgórniak, an honorary member, takes over the chair and gives a breath of fresh air to the committee. At their side there are committed representatives from various schools and youth leisure facilities of the district, including Zoe Neugebauer from the Gottfried Keller School, Ida-Marie Avemark from Eichendorff primary school, Henri Henkommer from the Judith-Kerr school, Pauline Aman from the Schiller-Gymnasium, David Adekunle, Connor Noten and Juri Ciesinger from different Youth clubs and meetings.
Since its foundation in 2003, the KJP has established itself as an important voice for the concerns of young people in the district. Every year, the students from primary, top and vocational schools as well as members of the youth leisure homes are called to give up their vote and to choose representatives in the parliament. To ensure that all relevant topics are treated, the members come together at least four times a year in the Charlottenburg town hall to discuss political ideas and projects.
The new board and its tasks
The newly elected members of the board bring fresh commitment. The aim of the KJP is to actively represent the interests of children and adolescents and to bring their proposals into district politics. After each session, the applications and ideas developed are forwarded to the district council (BVV), which deals with the concerns of young people. As a result, the KJP is a direct link between youth and political representation in the district.
District City Councilor Detlef Wagner, responsible for the youth and health department, expressed his enthusiasm for the constituent session: "It was a very successful meeting with many interested young people, stimulating contributions and many exciting guests from different Berlin districts." Wagner looks optimistic about another year full of productive cooperation with the young parliamentarians: inside.
The KJP is not only a platform for political participation, but also a space for personal development and education. The members have the opportunity to improve their communication skills and gain experience in political work. The youngsters are not only brought closer to the importance of democracy, but they also learn how they can actively participate in social processes.
In the end, the aim of the KJP is to make a living policy for and with young people. For further information on the children's and youth parliament and its activities, interested parties can access the official page where updates to meet meetings and actions are published regularly.
