Kantstraße becomes safer: new lane for fire protection and bike path!

An important step for Berlin tenants: The controversial new regulation of the lanes on Kantstraße in Charlottenburg was decided! The Berlin transport administration, together with the district, has decided that the bike path and the parking strips are exchanged. This measure should not only secure fire protection for the residents, but also prevent tenants from losing their apartments due to fire defects. A real reason for relief!

The cycle path, once installed as a temporary pop-up cycle path in the Corona period, has long caused excitement. District City Councilor Christoph Brzezinski even warned of an impending undernotion for some residential units. The current state does not allow that fire engines can easily get to the affected buildings in an emergency. The new regulation will offer the fire brigade the necessary space so that a turntable ladder can be used in the event of a fire to ensure human rescue from upper floors.

Implementation this year!

The plans were coordinated with a large number of decision -makers, including traffic senator Ute Bonde and State Secretary Johannes Wieczorek, all from the CDU. The transport administration announced that the measures should be implemented this year. The originally intended widening of the road through a narrower median strip was considered too expensive and complex. Instead of this solution, an exchange of the existing areas is made in order to take into account the requirements of commercial transport and the approaches to medical practices.

The tenants' fears that they have to leave their apartments now seem to belong to the past. The measures not only promise more security, but also an improvement in the traffic flow in Kantstrasse. A win-win situation for everyone involved!
