Baumgart back at Union Berlin: The hope for new glory!
Union Berlin has hired a new head coach, Steffen Baumgart, to lead the team after a weak start to the season. The club is reacting to the dismissal of Bo Svensson after nine games without a win. Baumgart, who was a player for the “Eiserne” from 2002 to 2004 and scored 22 goals during this time, is returning to his old place of work. “We chose Steffen Baumgart because we are convinced that he is the right type of coach for us,” explained managing director Horst Heldt, who had previously hired Baumgart in Cologne Newsday reported.
Important return for Baumgart
The 52-year-old will lead his first training session on January 2nd, followed by a friendly against Holstein Kiel on January 5th. Baumi, as he is called by fans, has Bundesliga experience and knows Union Berlin very well. This was a decisive factor in his return, which met with a particularly positive response from the supporters in Köpenick. In addition to him, assistant coach Sebastian Bönig and game analyst Adrian Wittmann are also returning to the club, which underlines the continuity in the coaching team.
Union is currently in twelfth place in the Bundesliga and needs a breath of fresh air to get out of the dangerous situation. The first competitive game under Baumgart will take place on January 11th against Heidenheim, an important date for the club to get back on the right track and increase the gap to the relegation places Laola1 reported.
