Letters against loneliness: Students give seniors hope for Christmas
In the run -up to Christmas, students and committed citizens wrote over 1100 Christmas cards and letters that were collected as part of the “Letters against Loneliness” campaign by Youngaritas, the youth area of the Caritas Association for Würzburg. The lovingly designed messages are passed on to senior citizens who live in nursing homes or are looked after by the Caritas social stations. According to Mainpost , the project originated in the Corona period, as the isolation of the older people was particularly noticeable. Even today, after pandemic, loneliness remains a widespread social problem that affects people of all ages.beautiful Christmas cards for a good cause
In addition to the collected letters, the support association of the Würzburg city library sells festive Christmas cards, which were designed by various artists. These cards can be purchased in the library by Christmas. A set with six different motifs costs 5 euros. Etchings from the Michel Kunsthaus are also available for 13 euros. Thanks to the artists who have made their motifs available, such as of the city library Würzburg , show such actions as can be creative and solidarity.
The participants of the Youngcaritas initiative come from various schools in the region, including the Friedrich König-Gymnasium and the Montessori FOS. The writing of these personal letters creates a valuable connection between the generations, which symbolically shows that nobody has to be alone, especially in such an emotional period as the Christmas season.
