Shocked Cuban: After a power failure, new crisis threatens by hurricane!

Three days after a massive power failure in Cuba there is finally light at the end of the tunnel. As official sources report, many households, especially in the western part of the Caribbean island, have recovered their electricity. Energy Minister Vicente de la O emphasized that almost 90 percent of the power supply in Havana, the capital, were restored. This failure was caused by the collapse of the heavily outdated power grid on Friday morning, which led to a complete power failure nationwide.

According to Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, the current power grid has an output of around 700 megawatts, but this is only a quarter of the necessary electricity requirement during high load times. The precarious situation is exacerbated by an existing generation deficit that prevailed before the failure. In many parts of the island, there were already daily power outages before the power failure, which lasted up to twelve hours. Cuba is currently experiencing one of the most severe economic crises since the 1959 revolution, which is difficult to meet the country.

Hurricane "Oscar" brings additional disaster

The situation in Cuba is tightened by the effects of the "Oscar" hurricane, which reached the island at the weekend. According to the state newspaper "Granma", many non -necessary activities remain on the island until at least Wednesday. The hurricane of the lowest category 1 mainly caused damage on the eastern north coast of the island.

Cities such as Baracoa, Imías and Maisí in the province of Guantánamo are particularly affected. The Cuban government announced on platform X that "Oscar" caused severe floods. Affected residents are evacuated by civil protection from endangered areas. A total of around 1,000 residential buildings were damaged by the storm surges, which also tightens the already tense situation of the population.
