Scholz or Pistorius? SPD debate escalated via Chancellor's candidacy!

In Bavaria it is bubbling in the SPD! The question of the next candidate for chancellor causes heated discussions in the district associations. A survey by the German Press Agency shows that Olaf Scholz, the reigning Chancellor, is repeatedly mentioned as a favorite, while Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is also under discussion. But opinions differ!

Scholz or Pistorius? The opinions are split!

Daniel Fürst, SPD's sub-district chairman in Neu-Ulm, praises Scholz for his leadership in times of crisis and sees no reason to doubt his candidacy. "Olaf Scholz has conducted multiple crises in a very difficult time and, despite visible differences between the coalition partners, can show an excellent balance," he explains. But not everyone share this opinion! In Bamberg, the chairman Olaf Seifert calls for a candidacy by Pistorius to advance an "unnecessary election defeat" with Scholz. "With a new and extremely popular Chancellor candidate Pistorius we have to create a new dynamic for the already starting Bundestag election campaign," said Seifert.

In the Erding district association, on the other hand, there is still no final decision. Chairman Martin Kern favors Pistorius, but recognizes the merits of Scholz. Severin Eder from Rottal-Inn / Dingolfing-Landau sees Scholz as a favorite, but also brings Hubertus Heil into play if Scholz should not compete hypothetically. "He brings social democratic labor and social policy on the floor and has a chancellor format," says Eder.

SPD leadership plans important switching!

The SPD leadership has scheduled a crucial switch to the candidacy for chancellor this evening. Party chiefs and the Secretary General have already spoken out for a new candidacy by Olaf Scholz, but an official decision by the party executive is still pending. The tension is increasing, because more and more SPD politicians are expressing each other at different levels. The final decision should be made by the "election victory conference" on November 30th. The clock ticks!
