Autumn conference in Schwandorf: Farmers are calling for political turnaround and help!
A turbulent year for farmers in Schwandorf! At the recent autumn conference of the Bavarian Farmers' Association (BBV) in the animal breeding center, the challenges and achievements of the past year were put on the table. The focus was on the protests at the beginning of the year and the devastating flood damage, which have heavily burdened the industry.
Stellvertretender Kreisobmann Michael Hofmann eröffnete die Sitzung mit einem eindringlichen Rückblick auf die schwierigen Monate. "We moved a lot, but it was a hard fight," he said. The protests that took place at the beginning of the year cost a lot of strength, but they also created a platform to make pressing problems visible. "A political turnaround is absolutely necessary," said Hofmann, as the current decision -makers do not seem to be willing to initiate a change of course.
Important information for farmers
Helmut Melchner, the new head of the Regensburg-Schwandorf agricultural office, informed about upcoming changes in the service and the introduction of the e-bill, which will be mandatory for all farmers from 2024. "An email address is currently enough," says tax expert Katrin Kreckl-Kerckhoff. The farmers do not have to issue bills at first, but the deadlines up to the complete implementation are clearly defined.
The flood aid remains a explosive topic: in Schwandorf-Regensburg 101 applications with a support requirement of around 2.4 million euros were made. There are even 1300 applications across Bavaria. BBV Managing Director Josef Wittmann also warned of the blue-tongue disease, which has also been widespread in Bavaria since August. "The only safe protective measure is vaccination," he emphasized, and sensitized those present to the dangers of the African swine fever.
