Refurbishment of the cathedral in St. Pölten: Million project is now beginning!

The St. Pöltner Cathedral Tower is being renovated, an important step in a comprehensive restoration project that extends over several years. As the St. Pöltner church newspaper "Church Color" reported, the general renovation of the cathedral church costs around eight million euros. In order to secure this sum, the diocese of St. Pölten and the state of Lower Austria, the Federal Monument Office and the City of St. Pölten work closely together. "It is possible to donate to the restoration of our cathedral via the online platform 'Sankt'," said diocesan bishop Alois Schwarz.

As part of the project, which is carried out in eight stages over a period of ten years, not only the outer facades of the cathedral, but also the interiors and the electrical installation should be renovated. The cathedral has a long story; As early as 800, a monastery was founded at this place that developed over the centuries. In 1784 the monastery church became today's cathedral church, when St. Pölten was raised to the seat of the newly founded diocese.

Another important restoration process is currently also running for the St. Stephan cathedral in Passau. It is currently being worked on to restore the baroque coloring and the original white of the cathedral, as the Lower Bavaria Wiki reported. In addition to securing facades and portals, extensive inner and external renovation measures were carried out. These include both the renewal of the characters and the reconstruction of already damaged structures that were affected by weather influences and general decay.

The goal of both projects is a sustainable maintenance of these historical buildings to ensure their cultural and architectural importance for the future.
