Volunteers wanted: help older people in everyday life!

older people and those with restrictions often face challenges in everyday life. Many activities that used to be routine become an effort. Here the neighborhood aid of the BRK Ostallgäu comes into play, which aims to help these people. "We specialize in providing help and support," explains Annett Filser, who is responsible for the organization.

For many affected people, it is the little things in life that become a challenge. Be it a simple walk, the shopping of food or the use of modern technologies such as smartphones or computers - all of this can be a significant barrier. In order to meet these needs, neighborhood aid is currently looking for committed people who are willing to get involved as everyday companions.

training and support for helping

Particular attention is paid to the comprehensive training of the volunteers. "Nobody is thrown into the cold water," emphasizes Filser. Interested helpers can look forward to a well -founded preparation, in which essential topics such as frequent clinical pictures, household tasks and art of communication are conveyed. These training courses offer the participants valuable knowledge with which they can help those in need of help in everyday life.

The next training courses begin on January 27, 2025 in Marktoberdorf and on March 10, 2025 in Kaufbeuren/Neugablonz. For more information, a contact address is available: specialist office@kvostallgaeu.brk.de or by phone at 08342 9669 43.

The task as everyday companion goes beyond mere help. It offers the opportunity to close new acquaintances and spend time together. The helpers receive tax-free allowance and are insured during their commitment both accident and liability. "This volunteering not only brings joy for those in need, but also for the helpers themselves," reports Filser with conviction. Regular advanced training and social exchange meetings among the helpers also promote a strong sense of community.

The basic idea of neighborhood help is simple but effective: it brings people together who need help and those who are willing to provide this support. Whether drinking coffee, walks together or simple everyday tasks - the small deeds provided are often valued by those who receive help.

The Red Cross also follows an important social mandate with this approach, because there are many people who feel lonely or have no relatives nearby in the older population. Volunteering in neighborhood help not only proves to be a significant support for those affected, but also brings the helpers into enriching contact with the community.

The search for new helpers runs continuously. If you are interested in getting involved in the neighborhood aid of the BRK Ostallgäu, you are welcome to find out more and maybe become part of this valuable initiative yourself. You can contact the BRK Ostallgäu at any time for interest who would like to know more about neighborhood help.
