Alarming bite damage in the Allgäu: Förster demand rethink!

In the Allgäu, alarming results of a current examination under Förtern ensure great concern. As Allgäuhit , the bite load in the mountain forests has increased significantly. During annual control, over 50,000 young trees in the districts of Oberallgäu and Lindau and in Kempten were examined. Result: The food habits of deer, chamois and deer endanger the rejuvenation of important tree species such as fir, beech and mountain haorn, which are crucial for adapting to climate change. The observation is particularly alarming that the fir can hardly form new shoots. Förster therefore call for an increase in hunting slips to relieve the situation and enable regenerative development of the forests.

a withdrawal after long commitment

In contrast to these ecological challenges, an important personality in the region, Harald Platz, withdraws from the active service. As the Allgäuer Zeitung has been the chairman of the Section Allgäu-Kempten of the German Alpine Association (DAV). At the age of 79, he decided to put down his offices in order to devote himself more to his private life. His tireless effort also extended to numerous other social areas, from Catholic youth to the parents' advisory board to the Chamber of Commerce. His retreat marks the end of an era that was characterized by personal commitment and passion for the region.

The urgency of the challenges in the Allgäu forests now meets the end of a long term of a man who has always campaigned for the interests of his community. It remains to be seen how those responsible react to the alarming forest values and whether the commitment of personalities like Harald can be continued in new responsibilities.
