Neuburg celebrates new path: a place of encounter in the English garden!

The inauguration of a new cross -country crowd in the English garden in Neuburg, which took place last Saturday, marked an important moment for the believers in the region. Under the motto "What will last long, finally becomes good", numerous participants gathered to attend the solemn act. Pastor Herbert Herbert Kohler, head of the parish community of Neuburg St. Peter and Holy Spirit, took over the blessing of the cross, which was set up at a fork between Donaudamm and the English garden settlement.

This special place in the English garden symbolizes the encounters and connections that take place among people. And as city pastor Kohler emphasized in his speech: "Here in the English garden, the paths of people cross. There are many encounters, often only short and fleeting, sometimes longer and very depth." The cross should invite you to experience encounters with appreciation and an open ear and also to stimulate reflection on your own spirituality.

The history of the cross

The idea for the new Wegenkreuz had already accepted shape a few years ago. Historically speaking, such crosses often served as orientation points in the landscape. Nowadays they should invite them primarily to peaceful encounter and quiet prayer. The implementation required the support of many active helpers. The supporters included City Councilor Alfred Hornung and Mayor Bernhard Gmehling. The beautification association, represented by Axel Kalkowski, was also open to the project. The Wittelsbacher compensation fund, as the owner of the English garden, also agreed after a tour of the location in spring 2024.

Forest director Peter Niggemeyer said that the preservation of cultural treasures in Bavaria and the creation of new art and cultural assets are of great importance. The new cross reflects both these values and the committed work of the local community. The upper part of the cross was dismantled in the Tegernsee Tal for unknown reasons and was found there for decades in the backyard of a stonemason company before it was found in the garden. The lower metal construction comes from the Metalbau operation Xaver Ostermeier in Aresing. The work on the foundation was carried out by the initiators themselves, while the Neuburger Steinmetz Leonhard Holzapfel renewed the heavily weathered leaf gilding.

The inauguration of the cross last Saturday not only represented the ceremonial conclusion of a long creation process, but also a sign of the community and the exchange in a place that is important to many people. The new cruise for path thus becomes a visible symbol of the encounter, faith and solidarity in the English garden of Neuburg.
