Schwenningen celebrates a historic 6-0 home win against Munich!
The Schwenninger Wild Wings celebrated an impressive 6-0 home win against EHC Red Bull Munich on Sunday. This marks the sixth consecutive home win for the Wild Wings and is also the highest win of the season and the highest win in DEL history against Munich. The victory is a special gift for Wild Wings coach Steve Walker, whose former club, EHC Red Bull Munich, is also in the headlines.
The game started promisingly for Schwenningen when Sebastian Uvira scored the first goal in the 11th minute. Although Munich had chances, including through Christopher DeSousa, who only hit the post, they were unable to score any goals. As a result, the Wild Wings managed to extend their lead: Zach Senyshyn scored with a simple advantage to make it 2-0, followed by Tyson Spink, who increased it to 3-0 in the 32nd minute. Munich struggled with difficulties in the passing game and a lack of ideas. Nine minutes before the end, Munich took the goalkeeper off the ice, which gave Schwenningen the opportunity to score more goals through Philip Feist, Brett Ritchie and Arkadiusz Dziambor and make the final score 6-0.
Steve Walker's move from EHC Red Bull Munich
Steve Walker, the coach of the Schwenninger Wild Wings, had previously worked for EHC Red Bull Munich. Walker, 50, joined the organization in May 2019 and was an assistant coach before recently winning the German championship with the DEL team. After his successful period, Walker asked for a personal career change, which was granted to him by management. Christian Winkler, Managing Director Sport Red Bull Ice Hockey, praised Walker's contribution to the fourth championship title and thanked Walker on behalf of the entire organization for his work, while wishing him all the best for the future redbullmuenchen.de reported.
Michael Bitzer, who was substituted by Coach Walker for regular goalkeeper Joacim Eriksson, celebrated his first “shut-out” in the top German league. The Wild Wings showed a strong performance throughout the game and were able to position themselves further in the top third of the table with this clear win.
