Slate tower in Inkofen: Church threatens to be at risk of collapse!
The St. Michael branch church in Inkofen, which has been a landmark since the 15th century, faces urgent renovation work. The inclination of your 20 meter high tower, which is inclined by 54 centimeters, is particularly worrying. According to Martin Bormann, the administrative manager of the parish association Zolling, this slant was caused by unstable soil layers. Despite the angle of inclination of 1.5 degrees, there is currently no danger that the tower overturns. He also received an emergency measure by a local carpenter to reduce the pressure that was exerted from the roof structure to the tower, such as Merkur.de reported.
However, there is even an urgent problem: the roof tiles of the tower have become unstable and are a serious risk, especially in strong wind. Bormann explains that some graves in the cemetery had to be blocked now to minimize the security risks. Engineering offices are now required for the necessary security and renovation work, while the parish is planning to quickly implement the measures. The municipality hopes to complete the work by spring 2025. Donations to cover the costs are gladly received. Nevertheless, the problems do not affect the services or other events that can continue to take place in the church, as can be read on the website of the ErzbiSchen
An amusing discovery made Bormann when examining the roof structure: he found an old beer bottle from the 1960s that the carpenter had hidden there. This "greeting" from the past provided amusement among those responsible.
