Choco Togo: A decade full of success for the cocoa industry!
The impressive success story of the chocolate cooperative Choco Togo shows how far the transformation of cocoa production in Togo has got within a decade. Just ten years ago, the annual production of processed cocoa in the country with only 300 kg was negligible. Today, however, Choco Togo has increased the processing quantity to astonishing 10 tons per year. This is the result of hard work and dedication of the cooperative, which is located in Kpalimé, a city in the region of the plateau.
choco Togo not only revolutionized cocoa production, but also had a significant influence on local employment. Around 60 women are integrated into the process of cocoa work, which offers you a stable source of income during the season. This is particularly important because these women are also busy in other related activities in the low season, which strengthens the economic security of their households.
festivals and international recognition
As part of the youngest Festi-Cacao, an important event, Choco Togo was also able to demonstrate his expertise outside of Togos. In cooperation with the committee for coordinating the coffee and cocoa industry (CCFCC), over 200 cocoa producers from Cameroon training were offered. For the first time, the event made it possible for the producers to process their cocoa themselves, which promotes the exchange of knowledge and experiences across national borders.
Eric Komi Agbokou, the managing director of Choco Togo, describes the past ten years as a journey full of challenges, but also significant success. During the celebrations for the tenth anniversary, he explained: "Dix an der de choco togo, c’est une histoire particulière de plus de 3540 jours, soit 118 Mois. C’est Dix an der Grands Impacts." This reflects the successes and influence that the cooperative has achieved in the region and beyond.
With its registered brand at the African Organization for Mental Property (OAPI) and membership in the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), Choco Togo confirms his commitment to fair trade and sustainable production. However, M. Agbokou emphasizes that this is only the beginning. It attaches great importance to the quality of the end product and strives to keep the cocoa content in the chocolate product over 50 % to avoid sugar -sweet products.
Future vision and development goals
With a clear goal in mind, Choco Togo wants to be perceived not only as a producer but also as a processor of high -quality cocoa and coffee. "The TOGO should position itself as a country that produces and processes high -quality cocoa and coffee, not just any cocoa, but excellent chocolate," said Agbokou.Choco Togo serves as a shining example of what local cooperatives can achieve if you rely on quality, innovation and exchange of knowledge. The cooperative shows that it is possible to reconcile economic growth with sustainable development and at the same time to remain competitive on the international market.
