Lebenshilfe wins Citizens' Prize: A sign of inclusion and commemoration

Miltenberg, Deutschland - an award that causes a stir! The project "Never again!" The Lebenshilfe Miltenberg sensationally took 2nd place at the renowned Citizens' Prize in Bavaria 2024. Sabine Prigandt-Kolb, the head of open help, was overjoyed when the news arrived from Munich. Under 84 applications from all over Bavaria, including eight from Lower Franconia, her team was recognized for the outstanding commitment to diversity and democracy. The project participants proudly present their black T-shirts with the strong motto: "I am how I am, and that's a good thing!"

The award ceremony on October 17, 2024 was an emotional event. Around two dozen people with disabilities and their supporters made their way to the Maximilianeum to show their impressive work. The creative texts and works of art, which were created under the direction of Heinz Linduschka and the artist Sandra Wörner, had the goal of recalling the injustice during the Nazi era. Those present were particularly affected by the impressive portraits of skeletons that bring the cruelty of euthanasia to light - an unforgettable and touching presentation that the present captivates.

a sign against forgetting

Thea Nodes brand, a committed mother, has researched the fates of victims and gave the murdered a face. Your cooperation with other artists shows how art can build bridges and create understanding of the past. "It is about raising the voice of the missing people," said the moving message of the project. Landtag President Ilse Aigner praised the inclusion work that illuminates the topic of euthanasia in a new light and makes it clear how important it is to act with respect and humanity.

The response to the presentations is overwhelming. Exhibitions already took place in several cities, and the demand for the accompanying book "Never again" is so high that a new edition is being planned. Judith Gerlach, the Minister of State for Health, acknowledges that the project impressively shows how exclusion is perceived in society. A strong sign against the hostility of the present and a call to make a tolerant and just society. The commitment of Lebenshilfe and the artists involved not only advance the topic of inclusion, but also shows that you can and must learn from history!
