Elsenfeld does without trees: grasses and bushes instead of silver linden!

Elsenfeld, Deutschland - A heated topic employs the municipal council of Elsenfeld: The planned planting of Silberlinden along the Mühlweg, which could become up to 20 meters high, is on the brink! While some council members regard the trees as an essential component of urban planning and climate protection, others warn of possible damage to the gymnasium by roots and shadow throwing on the photovoltaic system.

The discussion broke out at the meeting when Rudi Thorwart (UBV) said that the four trees were not vital because 30 more trees could be planted. But Anna Becker (SPD/Greens) countered that, given the rising temperatures and heat waves, one should not do without the trees. The environmental officer Klaus Ballmann also warned that the trees in this area could not thrive due to the supply lines and the lack of light. A proposal came from Werner Billmaier (SPD/Greens), who brought smaller trees into play as an alternative, while Berthold Oberle (UBV) vehemently advocated planting at this location.

local council decides against trees

After intensive debates, the decision was made: the municipal council mostly decided to do without the silver linden and instead plant grasses and bushes. This decision could have far -reaching consequences for the future design of the Mühlweg. The relocation of the gas pipeline, which would have been necessary due to the trees, would have cost the municipality around 31,000 euros, which is now no longer necessary.

But that was not the only topic of the session! Wind energy was also discussed: According to the regional planning association of Bavarian Untermain, there is only one notable area for wind turbines in Elsenfeld. Mayor Kai Hohmann announced that the municipality would like to actively participate in the designation of priority areas. In addition, construction work for the coughly was discussed between the construction of the cafeteria and the Georg-Keimel middle school as well as changes in local public transport that come into force from January 1st.
