Gotzinger drum: A piece of hero history in the Lokschuppen Rosenheim!
Rosenheim, Deutschland - The Gotzinger drum, a historical relic from the Murder Christmas from 1705, currently attracts everyone's attention in the Rosenheim locomotive shed! This important piece of Bavarian history is part of the exhibition "Heldinnen & Heroes", which has been open to the public since March 8 and runs until December 15th. Originally kept in the Schliersee Heimatmuseum, the drum was now presented to the masses and causes a stir.
The exhibition, which normally focuses on modern heroes from comic films, has deliberately decided to tell local hero stories. Jennifer Morscheiser, the head of the locomotive shed, explains: "We also wanted to tell Bavarian heroic stories like that of Kochel's blacksmith." The Gotzinger drum symbolically stands for the memory of the peasant uprising and the injustices that the insurgents suffered. "Better to die Bavarian than Imperial" - this urgent sentence on the drum shows the determination of people to fight for their beliefs.
A look at heroic history
Although the drum as a single piece may not have the greatest attraction, the history of the Sendlingen murder Christmas is often heard by the visitors. Thomas Forstner, the curator of the exhibition, emphasizes that the Gotzinger drum, together with other objects, illustrates the diversity of the hero memory. "We want to show what different forms there are, by means of which heroes are thought," he says. The annual memorial events are a lively memory of the events of 1705 and are on an equal footing along with monuments.
The hero exhibition in the locomotive shed is a fascinating topic that stimulates people to think: What is a hero? Morschiser emphasizes that local history needs more than just knowledge transfer. "It's about emotional exchange and knowledge transfer," she says, referring to the need to pick up people differently. The upcoming exhibition "Titanic - Time and Fate" in 2025 promises to captivate visitors again and to take up current topics.
