Attention, mushroom collectors! This is how you avoid fatal poisoning in the forest!

Kleinostheim, Deutschland - The mushroom season is in retreat, but there are still chances of a delicious harvest in the Spessart! Klaus Bsonek, the 81-year-old mushroom expert, enthusiastically reports: "At the moment everything is shooting!" With his decades of experience as a passionate collector and certified expert of the German Society for Mycology, every mushroom excursion with it is an exciting adventure.

The alarming incidents in North Rhine-Westphalia, where four people-including children-landed in the intensive care unit after eating the deadly tuber mushroom, the dangers of mushroom collecting illustrate. Numerous cases of mushroom poisoning are known, and BSONEK was personally involved in dangerous situations in which rapid action saved life. "A woman came to the clinic with poisonous skiing - she would have had no chance if she had come later," he reports.

important tips for mushroom collectors

How can you make sure that you don't put poisonous mushrooms in the basket? BSONEK recommends knowing the edible mushrooms in particular. A reliable knowledge of species is the first step towards security! Excursions and specialist literature offer valuable help. "In the best case, determination apps are only a rough orientation," warns Bsonek, because many differences are only shown on a closer look-often only in details.

In addition, the expert advises to consume only mushrooms that you are absolutely safe. Suspicious copies should be separated and presented to a specialist. In general, never eat mushrooms in raw state! Many mushrooms can only be enjoyed after roasting because they are difficult to digest or even poisonous. For the harvest, Bsonek recommends airy containers, because plastic bags are "absolutely unsuitable" for correct storage.

The regional mushrooms not only play a central role in culinary delay, but also in nature. BSONEK underlines how important they are for the symbiosis with trees. And to be sure: The fears regarding radioactive stresses are unfounded in the region, says Bonelk, who refers to his own measurements.
