Lindauer Kids: Swimming project saves children at the last minute!

in Lindau and the municipality of Bodolz was launched with the "Lindauer Kids on Swimming Court" project, which is actively committed to swimming lessons at primary schools. For over three years, schools have received support from experienced swimming instructors of the AquaCholge Wasserburg. This cooperation has proven to be lucrative, especially for non -swimmers, since the children learn to swim faster and more efficiently than in conventional forms of teaching. Michael Hankel, the initiator of the project from the Lions Club Lindau, is enthusiastic: “The cooperation between the swimming instructors and the schools went smoothly from the start. It is impressive to see the fun of the teacher and pupils in the water.”

However, the situation regarding swimming behavior in Germany is worrying. According to current statistics from the DLRG, around 40 % of 10-year-old children in Germany cannot swim safely. There is no longer this problem in Lindau: "Since the beginning of the project three years ago, no elementary school student has been leaving school without being able to swim," reports Thomas Zeleny, President of the Lions Club Lindau.

financing of the project

Originally, the financing of the project was designed for three years, with the FVA Foundation and the Lions Club Lindau bearing the costs. However, rising costs and a variety of funding applications put the financing to the test. Despite these challenges, there was agreement among all those involved to continue the project. Fortunately, three new sponsors were won over for the current school year: the Peter Dornier Foundation, the VR Foundation for Citizens on Lake Constance and the newly founded M+U Hankel Foundation.

These new supporters not only have already given financial commitments, but some of them want to accompany the project for at least three years. In this context, the Weißensberg primary school is also being integrated into the program, which represents another profit for the region.

solidarity and commitment

Michael Hankel emphasizes the importance of this support. "Financing through four foundations impressively shows that there is a great interest in solidarity and non -profit action in society despite a short public means and locally limited resources," he explains. This attitude is particularly important for initiatives that work for the formation and security of young people.
