Globs are increasing: District day plans to increase strong increase for households!

In the district of Lichtenfels, there is a significant increase in waste fees. District Administrator Christian Meißner (CSU) announced that the fees for waste disposal must increase due to several factors. The last adjustment of the fees took place on January 1, 2021, when the costs were increased by an average of 9.45 percent. In the past four years, the fees have been kept stable due to a reserve and good papier proceeds. But now a significant increase is inevitable.

A central reason for the increase is in the decline in paper quantities and prices. According to press spokesman Andreas Grosch, the amount of paper collected from 4546 tons in 2021 dropped to only 3906 tons in 2023. The proceeds, which were still a proud 242 euros per ton in August 2022, fell dramatically in February 2023 to just 61.27 euros per ton. Another reason for the need for a new fee adjustment are the increased costs for waste incineration. From May 2024, the burn is increased by 129 euros per ton to 156 euros per ton, and further increases will be expected. This means that waste management is faced with drastic financial challenges.

Details for increasing fees

It becomes primarily for households: an average increase of 44 percent is required to cover the costs. The new fees are as follows: In the future, one-person households will pay 116 euros instead of 80.40 euros-that is 2.97 euros more per month. From now on, two people in the budget have to pay 81.20 euros instead of 56.40 euros, which corresponds to an increase of 2.07 euros per month. Larger households also feel the changes: six people will pay 62.40 euros instead of 43.20 euros, i.e. an increase of 1.60 euros.

In the case of commercial waste containers, fees increase by up to 7.72 euros a month. In addition, the price for residual waste bags increases from 2.60 euros to 3.70 euros. The district committee unanimously agreed to increase the fee statute. The next step towards the final approval takes place on December 2 in the district council after the topic has already been discussed in the environmental committee.

additional measures and suggestions

Another interesting measure is the free provision of additional residual waste bags for families with wrap children and people in need of care who suffer from incontinence. The funding period will be extended by the end of 2027, which causes costs of around 15,000 euros annually. However, these expenses may not be folded down to the waste fees.

Clarification on the questions and misunderstandings about the bulky waste collection was also hit. A somewhat misleading wording in the waste management statute is deleted to prevent smaller bulky waste from being not taken away. It should be pointed out that the gray bin is intended for such small waste.

This comprehensive change in the waste fee statute represents a necessary step to compensate for the increasing costs. The discussions in the district committee illustrate how important a transparent communication policy in waste management is in order to keep those affected, be it privately or commercially, up to date.
