MVV growth: new counties and cheaper tickets from 2025!

MVV growth: new counties and cheaper tickets from 2025!

München, Deutschland - The Munich traffic and tariff association (MVV) faces a huge change! From January 1, 2025, the districts of Landsberg am Lech and Weilheim-Schongau will be part of the MVV. But that is only the beginning: the MVV could grow to the XXL network as early as 2026, since the Augsburg Transport Association (AVV) also shows interest in a merger. MVV Managing Director Bernd Rosenbusch announced that the decisive decisions could be made in Augsburg next week. He is optimistic that the previous shareholders will agree.

The effects of this expansion are enormous! Travelers can look forward to a uniform tariff system that will revolutionize the use of public transport. A single ticket will be enough to achieve different goals, and the timetables are better coordinated, which shortens the transfer times. And best of all: in many cases the journeys are cheaper! An example: A trip from Munich to the Wieskirche, which previously cost 56 euros, will only cost 36.50 euros with the new MVV group daily card-a saving that is impressive!

growth and challenges

Last year, several counties joined the MVV, including Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Miesbach. From January the association will consist of 14 partners, including the Free State of Bavaria. While some counties, such as Mühldorf, hesitate for cost reasons, there are still considerations to form smaller allies. Landshut also shows interest in joining MVV in 2026. The decision of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district is still pending.

Around 422,000 commuters use the MVV room every day, many of them with the Germany ticket. But the price increase at 58 euros from 2025 could make some to rethink their options. The MVV records 800 million passengers annually - that is more than two million trips a day! The future of public transport in the region looks exciting!
