MVV expansion: From 2025, Weilheim and Landsberg also benefit!

From January 1, 2025, the Munich Verkehrs and Tariff Association (MVV) will be extended to the districts of Weilheim-Schongau and Landsberg am Lech! This exciting development was presented in Munich by MVV Managing Director Bernd Rosenbusch on Tuesday. With this expansion, the MVV region will grow to an impressive 3.7 million inhabitants-this means that almost every third Bayer will live in the MVV area!

The advantages for the commuters and leisure travelers are enormous! Real -time timetables and a uniform tariff system are introduced, which means that passengers only need a ticket in the future where several were previously necessary. Rosenbusch emphasized that the MVV day and weekly tickets will also apply in the new counties. Students can use the entire MVV room with the 365 euro ticket. An example pleasant? Anyone who drives from Weilheim to Munich saves the MVV day ticket compared to the Bayern ticket!

growth and switch from the car

Although initially no additional bus lines or more frequent clocks are planned in the new composite counties, Rosenbusch expects the number of passenger numbers and a "momentum for public transport". An advertising campaign will attract day tourists from Munich to excursion destinations in Weilheim and Landsberg. In addition, the MVV will also range from January 2024 to Swabia, as some places in the Aichach-Friedberg district become part of the new bond.

And that's not all! If the negotiations go positively, the districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Landshut could also join the MVV on January 1, 2026. Even the Augsburg Verkehrsbund could be integrated into the MVV at the request of the Augsburg! Rosenbusch also commented on the Germany ticket and emphasized that it would run into the next year. The crucial question remains how the Bundestag and the Federal Council will decide on the changes to the regionalization law. "It doesn't die quickly," says Rosenbusch optimistic.
