Anette and Michael Panhans have to give up their dream with a heavy heart and react to the shocking changes in shopping behavior. Numerous customers are now ordering their books online, and the costs are increasing steadily. Anette Panhans explains the challenges: "The margins are not high, the costs continue to increase." The traditional shopping experience gives way to a digital age, and this will be doomed to the last bookstore in the city and district of Kronach.

The bookstore remains open until January 31, 2025 and will offer everything as usual during the upcoming Christmas business. Orders are also possible up to this deadline. After the closure, a sale of the remaining books will take place before the rooms expect an uncertain future. The owner fully says: "Unfortunately, we are not aware of what comes after the bookstore." It will be a tough farewell for everyone who valued the charming atmosphere of the "bookmark".

But the couple also sees light at the end of the tunnel: "We will go down a bit after the closure." After intensive years full of work, the two treat themselves to a well -deserved break, whereby they do not rule out the opportunity to remain true to the book industry in a different form. "We started together 25 years ago, now we stop together," notes Panhans Sentimental. The closure of the bookstore symbolizes the end of an era and lets the question arise: will there soon be more "shopping" in Upper Franconia?
