The managing director Peter Heidecker can now set up five holiday apartments on over 300 square meters in the basement of the "Sonnenhotel Weingut Weingut Römmert". A project that was characterized by controversy and emotions right from the start. The dispute over the use of the cellar has heated the minds and raised questions about the credibility of the city council.

The discussion about the building application was heated, but also factual when the two large factions FWG and CSU spoke out for conversion. Mayor Heiko Bäuerlein referred to the importance of the hotel for tourism in Volkach, while FWG politicians Felix Engert and Tobias Thum considered the application to be meaningful. Thum critically commented on the client's approach, but described it as "rather stupid" instead of as an evil intention. This remark reflects the uncertainty as to whether the cellar expansion was planned from the start or was a reaction to external pressure and legal problems.

Moritz Hornung from the Greens also spoke of a "fatal external impact" on the citizens.

The history of the basement is long and full of twists: it was not originally fully under cellar, and after a freeze in 2018, the plans seemed to have come to a standstill. But now, after many hurdles, the basement of the wine hotel soon shines in a new light - as a place of relaxation and art.
