Sad withdrawal: ESV Ingolstadt withdraws Judo men's team!
An era collapses! The ESV Ingolstadt withdraws its Judo second division team after six years from the 2nd Bundesliga. Head coach Sebastian Zimmermann confirmed the shocking decision that was made due to financial and personnel problems. "The whole development makes me really sad," said Zimmermann, who launched the "Project Coyoten" 13 years ago and rose with his team until the 2nd Bundesliga.
financial difficulties and missing sponsors
The search for sponsors was a desperate fight. "Even in an industrial city like Ingolstadt, nobody is ready to help us," complains Zimmermann. A small amount of 3000 to 4,000 euros could have been another decision. But the support failed to materialize, and the club grant that has already been promised will be eliminated in the coming season. The "Coyoten" squad is also weakened by injuries and departures, which makes the situation even more dramatic. "We are practically without a chance in the struggle for the fighters," says Zimmermann frustrated.
In the coming year, the ESV will no longer report a judo-master team. Instead, Zimmermann wants to focus on individual championships with the remaining fighters and promote youth work and the establishment of a women's team. Despite the withdrawal, Zimmermann remains connected to the department because his daughter is active in judo. "I ask for your understanding, but at the moment I need some distance. At the moment, this withdrawal is simply too depressing for me," he admits.
