Ingolstadt: Economy on the decline – companies see black!
The economic situation in Ingolstadt is anything but rosy! After a brief glimmer of hope in the spring, the IHK economic index fell by six points to an alarming 93 points, far away from the long-term average of 117 points. Companies are struggling with stable but subpar business conditions while the outlook remains bleak. Uncertainty in economic policy and weak domestic demand are affecting companies' optimism. Only 29 percent of the companies surveyed see their business as good, while 16 percent rate it as bad. The IHK warns: The mood is tense!
The stress is enormous! A lack of demand plagues 66 percent of companies, followed by high energy prices (57 percent) and staff shortages (54 percent). The pessimism is deeply rooted: only 13 percent hope for improvement, while 36 percent expect things to get worse. The IHK sees the economic policy framework as the main cause of the misery, followed by weak domestic demand and high labor costs. The labor shortage remains a key risk that keeps companies on tenterhooks.
Investment plans under pressure
The cold mood has direct consequences for investments and employment! A fifth of the companies are planning more investments, but more than a third want to reduce them drastically. The last time the willingness to invest was this low was during the Corona and financial crisis. The signs point to job cuts: 16 percent of companies want to cut jobs, while only 8 percent are creating new positions. Franz Schabmüller, spokesman for the IHK forum for the Ingolstadt region, urgently calls for a relief for the economy. Bureaucratic hurdles must be reduced and electricity prices must be reduced. Time is running out to get back on the growth track!
The IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria surveyed numerous companies in Ingolstadt and the districts of Eichstätt, Pfaffenhofen and Neuburg-Schrobenhausen for its current economic report. The results are alarming and show that companies in the region are facing major challenges. The economy urgently needs a boost!
