Marco John leaves Hoffenheim: return to Greuther Fürth!
In a surprise transfer, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim announced today that 22-year-old left-back Marco John is parting ways with the club after almost twelve years. The homegrown player, who has been playing in Hoffenheim's youth academy since 2013, is leaving the club to move to SpVgg Greuther Fürth. John signs a contract there until 2026 and has the option of a further contract extension. This reports LAOLA1.
The move comes as a result of the limited game time John has had with Hoffenheim this season. After his return from a torn cruciate ligament, the defender only made three appearances for the second team and was only able to play two games last season. Andreas Schicker, TSG's new sporting director, explained that both sides had come to the decision in an honest conversation that John needed more match practice than he could get at Hoffenheim. “We are convinced that we have found an optimal solution with Greuther Fürth,” says Schicker. Marco John had already played on loan in Fürth in the 2022/23 season and established himself there as a valuable part of the team tsg-hoffenheim.de reported.
During his career at Hoffenheim, John played a total of 16 Bundesliga games, four Europa League appearances and one DFB Cup game. After the move has been completed, he will now play again for Greuther Fürth, where he was able to claim a regular place last season. The club expressed enthusiasm about its return to the Kleeblatt and hopes for a successful collaboration.
