Listen better for everyone: Mobile Health Days of Lebenshilfe Bamberg
In Erlangen there was an unusual health event that was under the motto "Mobile Health Days - better hear". During these days, Lebenshilfe employees were able to examine their ears and have a hearing test carried out. This initiative is launched by Special Olympics Bayern (Soby) and is intended to offer members with special needs the opportunity to better keep an eye on their health.
Deborah Specht, sports officer of Lebenshilfe Erlangen, emphasized that many people with impairments suffer from hearing problems. "Participation was of course voluntary, the interest was great, 100 people have registered," she indicates, proof of how important such an event is.
a team for health
Michi Schmelzer, who heads the health program of Special Olympics Bayern, explained that good health was a basic requirement for sport. "We want people with learning impairments to develop more awareness of their health and also take care of them independently," continued Schmelzer. The event not only aims to offer practical medical services, but also to reduce inhibitions in dealing with the health system. Specht described that many people with learning impairment are afraid of visiting the doctor and often encounter uncertainties from medical specialist staff. This event is intended to help overcome these barriers.
The doctors who volunteer are particularly emphasized: Professor Dr. Maria Schuster and Dr. Hans Schober were also on site to offer support to the participants. Her friendly and open way has contributed to creating a pleasant atmosphere in which the participants felt comfortable. In a further step, the DOLOGOPATIE School in Munich and the Hörgeräte Seifert company was involved in the event to supplement the medical service.
Communication takes place in easy language, which ensures that all participants can easily understand the information. Employees of the Regnitz workshops also actively support throughout the event. In the end, all participants received a report with tips for protecting their ears from noise and recommendations for further medical care, where necessary.
This year Lebenshilfe Erlangen is a member of Special Olympics Bayern for the first time. This belonging opens up new opportunities for joint projects and the integration of people with various impairments in sport. Preparations for the Bavarian state games, which take place in Erlangen from July 14th to 18th, are already in full swing. Here the participants may be excited about many other exciting offers and the opportunity to participate in sporting activities.
