Duathlon in Deining: Young people show fighting spirit and achieve triumph!

In the picturesque Deining in the Upper Palatinate, the 2024 youth competition series of the Bavarian Triathlon Association (BTV) took place. This duathlon rounded off an exciting season, which included various competition formats over the year. The youngest competitors had the opportunity to collect points in the series - from swimming and running in spring to triathlons over the summer and finally duathlons in autumn. An impressive element of this series is that participants have to compete in every competition format in order to be taken into account in the overall ranking.

The Harburg athletes were remarkably active in the category of students B (born in 2013/2014). Quinn Ellrich, Jana Graf and Maxime Westphal competed against a strong competition of almost 30 other boys and girls. Quinn had to fight back after a fall right at the beginning of the competition, but quickly found his rhythm and was the first to complete the MTB route after the change. With a strong performance in the second run, he crossed the finish line as the winner. Jana Graf, on the other hand, had to deal with the slippery conditions that were doomed to her in cycling. Despite a solid term in the second part, she could not push herself forward and landed in the top ten. Maxime, who looked back on his first cross-duathlon experience, swayed the strength of the route and came to a respectable 16th place.

successful debuts and championship titles

LAURA Reinsch ventured into the race in the category of schoolchildren A (born 2011/2012) and made a successful debut in 11th place. She did not let her competition down at the first cross-duathlon, but the direct competitive relationship helped her to gain noise.

in youth B (2009/2010) Joel Westphal and Nina Mayer competed with high expectations. Joel delivered a strong performance by completing both runs in less than 4 minutes per kilometer. Although he lost the connection to the top group while cycling, but he could still be satisfied with 10th place. Nina, on the other hand, showed her extraordinary skills both while running and cycling. With about 4 minutes per kilometer in the two runs and a strong performance at the MTB, she secured second place and thus the title of the Bavarian runner-up in cross-duathlon with a solid lead of 1:30 minutes on the third place.

in the youth A (2007/2008) category, the competition was particularly challenging. The two talented athletes Julia Weiland and Elisabeth Haupt, both of whom made their debut in the Bayernliga, were faced with the task of competing against strong opponent field. They ran the first 2 km together and scored respectable times of 8:48 and 8:53 minutes. Julia showed excellent skills on the demanding 2.5 km long MTB course that had to be driven four times. With a clever overtaking maneuver, she was not only able to dismantle the gap to the leading one, but also switched to the final running route as a total of overall. With a confident performance in the last kilometer, she also secured the title of the Bavarian runner-up in cross-duathlon. Elisabeth, who completed the first run, had to have a little off on the bike, but was able to reach fourth place in the final run at the third best time.

These successes not only underline the individual achievements of the Harburg junior athletes, but also the positive development of regional triathlon competence. The athletes have shown that they are required in competitions and in coping with challenging conditions. Your results in 2024 create a solid cornerstone for future competitions and successes that you can look back on.
