Cinema magic in Deggendorf: emotions and stories on the screen!

in Deggendorf celebrated film lovers on Saturday the 5th short film festival, an event that, despite its small format, was no less exciting than big festivals such as Berlinale or Cannes! The town hall was packed with enthusiastic spectators who were eagerly waiting for a selection of creative short films. "I didn't dream that back then," said Jonas Brand's curatorial head, who is also a prominent filmmaker. He received support from Mayor Christian Moser and numerous sponsors.

The individual film selection wiped regional covers with multifaceted stories, but without drifting into home. "It's about sharing experiences and listening to others," emphasized Brand. Particularly noteworthy are the films that deal with the inner demons of people. In the animation strip "Shadow Play", a little girl is persecuted by a shadow monster, whom she encounters and can overcome her with the help of her imagination. Here talented directors worked and sent the producer Lissy Giglberger from Deggendorf with full emotion to report on the creative process.

filmmakers deal with the topics of fear and acceptance. In the documentary “Clouds”, the viewer follows the protagonist Tian, who comes into harmony with his emotions and uses various paths such as music and Buddhism to channel them. The fictional short film "Accept", in which a young woman fights against her inner demons, also provided goosebumps atmosphere, accompanied by impressive images from foggy forests.

But not only the interior is discussed. With “I See Them Bloom”, the film illuminates the opaque paths of escaping two Ukrainian sisters to Munich, while “Harragas” captures the dramatic real experiences of young people who, despite adverse circumstances, give up everything to get to Europe. The multidimensionality of the topics touched the audience and provided intensive discussions.

The big star of the evening was the documentary "Angelique", which tells the life story of a strong trans woman. The director Elisabeth Kratzer and cameraman Pius Neumaier led the audience on an emotional roller coaster ride through the life of the protagonist, who went her own way early on. People from courage and authenticity, this film was the undisputed favorite of the audience and crowned an evening full of inspiring stories.
