A shock for the families in Dachau! The popular projects "family sponsors" and "Wellcome" of Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) are facing out. After ten years of successful support for parents and single parents, the financing is abruptly deleted by the district. Those responsible are horrified and the volunteers feel revealed. "It is sad and angry that such important offers are simply eliminated," says a family godmother.

The projects that have existed since 2014 and 15 years offered valuable help in crisis situations such as moving, separation or illness. "We have supported 50 to 60 families annually in recent years and had over 15,000 voluntary hours," explains project coordinator Kerstin Schmied. But now the full -time organization, which is responsible for the coordination and support of the volunteers, is no longer financed. "This is a milkmaid bill," warns Schmied, "because without support, small crises quickly become major problems." The decision of the district council to completely delete funds ensures incomprehension and disappointment among those involved.

The bitter reality for families

The volunteers who have deliberately chosen this responsible task bring not only time, but also passion. "We don't come from the office, there is no bureaucracy and no pressure. The parents feel comfortable and safe," emphasizes a committed godmother. But the future of the projects is uncertain. "The end of April," confirms the head of the AWO multi-generation house, Jasmin Halbritter. The effects of this decision could be devastating, especially for the children who need support. "It will have bad consequences," warns a worried family.
