Digital shopping city: Dachau sets standards for retail!

Dachau, Deutschland - The “Digital Shopping City” project has achieved a remarkable result in Dachau. With a variety of practice -oriented workshops and participations of over 200 people, effective access to digital solutions for local retail and service providers were created. The aim was to promote digitization and optimally exploit existing potential. The results achieved impressively show how local companies can benefit from the latest digital technologies.

A good two years ago, the project started as an initiative of the business development agency in the Dachau district after it received the support of the Bavarian State Ministry of Economics, Landes Development and Energy. The city of Dachau took responsibility for the project in cooperation with the Dachau trade association. In this funding program, 80,000 euros are available for supporting retail and the municipalities, while around 70,000 euros have been spent on now. The project is promoted equally by the municipalities and the Free State.

networking of dealers and innovators

"The focus of this project was to actively support inpatient dealers, service providers and restaurateurs on their way to digitization," explains District Administrator Stefan Löwl. The goal was to combine the advantages between inpatient trade and the possibilities of the online business, and thus combine the best of both worlds. The secret of success was open communication. The focus was not planned in the quiet closet, but focused on the needs of the actors on site.

Mayor Florian Hartmann emphasizes the importance of the transparent approach during the entire process. At the beginning, over 120 traders were invited to a kick -off event in which their wishes and needs were determined. Six central topics for the workshops were derived from this needs analysis. The workshops, which were organized specifically on the topics mentioned above, enjoyed great popularity, with more than 170 participants in the autumn season 2023 and in the spring of 2024 to flock to the events.

interactive workshops and their success

The workshops covered a wide range of topics, from social media and online marketing strategies to eCommerce and innovative technologies such as virtual reality and 3D animation. Ralf Weimer, 2nd Board of Dachau, deals with the exciting and informative evenings that went hand in hand with a considerable exchange of knowledge. The combination of local providers of online services with the traders created a fertile basis for creative collaborations.

Katja Deml from the Dachau Economic Development Development Department describes the workshops as a platform where ideas immediately adopted shape. "Business cards were exchanged, concepts were developed and the first projects were initiated in the evening," she explains. The intention was clear: the project should not only remain theoretically, but also offer practical results and implementation options.

Thanks to this initiative, the local economy is not only strengthened digitally, but also a network of innovators that work together to master the challenges of digital change. The successful implementation of the "digital shopping city" shows how valuable partnership -based approaches and the community work between municipalities, trade associations and local companies can be in order to promote digitization and to make many activities profitably.
