Dachau is planning a new district: neighborhood management for lively neighborhood!

In Dachau, a new district will be built on the former site of the paper mill after most buildings have been torn down. On 1.38 hectares, living rooms for 2000 people and 61,000 square meters of commercial space are to be created. But the plans encounter resistance: the citizens fear that the quarters are decomposed to a "ghetto" and demand affordable living space as well as a lively neighborhood.

To counteract this, the family and social committee has decided to set up a "neighborhood management", which is intended to prevent anonymity in the new quarter. A central concern is to promote a "feeling of being" and to create an identity for the new district. Mayor Florian Hartmann emphasizes that the city does not want to create anonymous new development area.

high costs and uncertainties

However, the costs for neighborhood management are high, and the city of Dachau does not plan to take part in financially. Instead, the owner of the property, the Isaria, should take over the start -up financing. The city expects annual operating costs of 234,000 euros, which are ultimately to be passed on to the owners. It remains to be seen whether the Isaria agrees. The next step is to develop a final neighborhood concept and to record it in the urban development contract.
