Dachau: The population decline brings new challenges for daycare centers!

In Dachau there are surprising news about population development! Contrary to the gloomy forecasts of 2020, the city's growth has slowed down. The reasons? The devastating effects of pandemic, the Russian attack war on Ukraine and the continuing inflation. These global crises have not only led to fewer births, but also more deaths and moves. The city administration then revised the population estimates of 2019/2020 and re-evaluated the needs for the care of children, primary and middle schools.

The good news: The decline of the population makes it easier to provide Dachau to provide the necessary childcare places by 2030. By 2027, the city can even look at the demand for day care centers. But there is a drop of bitterness: the acute lack of staff in the area of child rearing remains a major challenge. Mayor Florian Hartmann (SPD) warned: "We may not be able to operate every group because we have no staff for it."

The city, however, sees an increase in demand for supporting support at all four primary schools. Hartmann says urgently needs to be traded here. A possible solution could be the redistribution of students between primary schools to relieve the monastery school. In addition, there is already an application to expand the monastery school.

The challenge of providing enough kindergarten places by 2027 also remains. Nine additional groups are needed, which means that existing after -school care groups have to be converted into kindergarten groups. The after-school school at the Dachau-Ost primary school and the “Drachenland” container provision are particularly affected. But that is only the beginning - other facilities also have to deal with the conversion.

A look into the future shows that by 2040 an additional need of 130 to 155 places will be created in all care areas. These numbers are alarming, but the city has little influence on population growth, which mainly takes place in existing residential areas. Here Dachau has to plan strategically in order to meet the requirements!
