Farmers master veal birth: training on the realistic simulator!
An exciting event for farmers in Lichtenfels! At a workshop of the Office of Food, Agriculture and Forestry (Aelf) Coburg-Kulmbach and the State Institute for Agriculture (LFL), everything revolves around the birth of calves-a decisive event that is associated with many challenges. Eleven farmers took part in this educational event, which took place as part of the network project Network Focus on animal welfare. Thanks to the promotion of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), participation for farmers was free of charge.
The participants were carried out by the experienced veterinarian Dr. Eva Roden introduced into the secrets of calf birth. She explained how a natural birth works and what measures have to be taken to avoid complications. The highlight of the workshop was the practical part at the Warmuth company in Tiefenroth, where a lifelike birth simulator was built up. Here the farmers were able to practice different birth situations under realistic conditions, including the correction of misleads and the first supply of calf and cow.

The farmers had the opportunity to work with various aids to practice the extract of the veal. They could even try twin births! This practical training is crucial to improve farmers' skills and to increase security when the calves are born. The workshop not only offers valuable knowledge, but also promotes understanding of animal welfare and sustainable livestock farming.
