Irene Wagner, the chairwoman of the regional committee of the IHK, warns: weak demand and growing uncertainty in particular increase the industrial companies. The district is on the edge of a job cut, while neighboring districts such as Traunstein are already affected by short -time work. "Thousands of employees are in danger!" Said Wagner. The situation could continue to tighten if the demand does not attract quickly.

Wagner urgently explains that the market economy is based on supply and demand. If the demand remains low, companies must reduce their production. "We are already seeing the episodes at BSH home equipment and Heidenhain in Traunstein," she warns. The industry, which traditionally was considered the engine of the economy, is in a structural crisis. Significant orders from China and the United States as well as the challenges of the energy transition and high energy prices are heavily increasing to companies. "The bureaucracy and unclear economic policy do the rest," she adds.

Wagner reports that the willingness to invest will drop and that many companies prefer to invest abroad. "Only six percent of companies in Southeast Upper Bavaria plan to hire additional staff while 20 percent want to reduce jobs!" She explains. The result: increasing unemployment in the Berchtesgadener Land seems inevitable.

Wagner sees the greatest risks in the uncertainty of the economic political framework. "The companies are unsettled by the constant back and forth of politics," she says. In order to achieve an upswing, she appeals to the federal government to implement the necessary measures quickly. "We need a comprehensive structural reform to secure competitiveness and make the Berchtesgadener Land attractive again!"
