Bavaria trains against forest fires: fire brigade practices on the peezers!

In a gripping training for forest fire fighting, 30 emergency services from the fire brigades from Berchtesgaden have demonstrated their skills! On November 8th and 9th, 2024, the brave firefighters gathered on the picturesque Kneifelspitze to prepare for the emergency. The event, organized by the Berchtesgaden district fire brigade association, aimed to master the challenges of vegetation fires in alpine regions.

The training was three -level and began with theoretical foundations that were conveyed to the participants by innovative learning videos. The knowledge was deepened on the first day before going into practice on the second day. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, real fire flocks were placed in the Bichlweg/Sandgrube area. The new Unimog team from the Marktschellenberg fire brigade and the UTV of the Berchtesgaden fire brigade were used to get the flames as close as possible. The firefighters worked in foot troops, laid hose lines and used special hand tools to combat vegetation fires.

But that wasn't all! In a spectacular second part of the training, the extinguishing attack was practiced from the air. Two helicopters from the companies "HTM" and "Heli Austria" support the emergency services in locating fire spots in the summit area of the Kneifelspitze. After an exploration flight, the necessary personnel and material was flown to the summit, from where the firefighters with water containers and even by dropping extinguishing water from the helicopters.

A big thank you went to the helicopter companies and the external instructors who brought valuable experiences from missions in Portugal. This training has well prepared the emergency services for future challenges!
