Doctors warn: Blozungen disease before spreading to Traunstein!
Traunstein, Deutschland - The alarming news about blue -tongue disease make the round! So far, the dreaded virus has not yet gained a foothold in the districts of Berchtesgadener Land and Traunstein, but the time of the victory over this threat is visibly limited. Veterinarians warn urgently: it is only a matter of time before the dangerous gnitzes, the small stinging mosquitoes, also develop their devastating consequences here. This viral disease has catastrophic consequences in particular for sheep and also does not spare cattle and other ruminants.
Veterinarian Dr. Stephanie Geischeder, a luminary in the area of animal health, appeals to farmers: Preventive vaccination is now the requirement of the hour! Because while the danger can still be contained in the far southeast of Bavaria, there are already confirmed cases in the neighboring counties such as Rosenheim and Miesbach. And the summer is approaching with big steps - the temperatures rise and thus create an ideal habitat for the dreaded gnitzen. Dr. Geischeder warns: "The increase in virus takes place directly in the gnitzen, which transfers the disease to the animals through their saliva." Sheep are particularly susceptible; The disease can often be fatal to them, while cattle sometimes suffer drastic loss of performance - up to 20 percent.
Caution is better than forbearance!
The call for prevention is clear! The cost of vaccination is around 10 euros per animal, partly reimbursed by the animal disease fund. With prepared inventory management, farmers can avoid serious consequences. However, the introduction of an obligation to vaccinate, as it was discussed in 2007, is not up for debate this time. Dr. Geischeder encourages farmers to take vaccination seriously. "This is the only sensible decision for your own inventory," she emphasizes.
The effects of blue -tongue disease can already be felt: strict precautions must be observed on the calf market, which makes many farmers reserved. Especially in times when agriculture in the region is threatened by unforeseen adversity, the veterinarian calls for active participation in the vaccination measures to protect domestic animal stocks. In view of this threatening situation, it is important to act quickly - before it's too late!
