Review search: Mainfranken and Main-Rhön fall completely out!
Gemünden, Deutschland - In Germany, the hot discussions about the accommodation of radioactive nuclear waste are in full swing! The latest results of the Federal Society for Final storage (BGE) show that large parts of the regions of Mainfranken and Main-Rhön are out of the question for the final storage. An alarming signal for the residents, because the district of Würzburg is completely excluded! The districts of Schweinfurt, Bad Kissingen and Main-Spessart are also on the shooting list.
Not everything is lost! It remains exciting in the Gemünden region and the reason, because no final decisions have been made here. The BGE warns to patience: it is only an intermediate stand. The search for a suitable repository for the highly dangerous nuclear waste is to be pushed forward by the end of 2027. Will the affected regions be again in focus?
The long way to the solution
Germany, which has been based on nuclear power since 1961, has an enormous problem: there is still no approved repository for highly radioactive waste. The amount corresponds to up to 1,900 castor containers! For decades, Gorleben was a location as a location, but the plans were ultimately rejected. Now the entire federal territory is examined to find a secure solution.
The Federal Environment Ministry is optimistic and expects to find a suitable location by 2050. But critics warn and make the forecast more realistic at 2070. Time is forced! The search for a repository remains one of the greatest challenges of German energy policy - and the affected regions have to prepare for an uncertain future!
