Election campaign in Kaufbeuren: The flood of posters doesn't start until after Christmas!

The election campaign in Germany is picking up speed! With the upcoming federal election on February 23, 2025, preparations are in the starting blocks. In Kaufbeuren, however, Christmas decorations will adorn the streets for the time being, while election posters may only be hung from January 11, 2025 at 2 p.m. The city administration announced this and emphasized that the regulation on election advertising in Kaufbeuren is clearly defined: election posters may only be presented in public spaces six weeks and ten hours before the election date. In contrast, in Regensburg, for example, the parties have had the opportunity to spread their messages since November 23rd, which leads to exciting discussions, such as Allgäu newspaper reported.

Postal voting is booming in Augsburg

At the same time, Augsburg is preparing for a substantial participation in the election. Around 190,000 eligible voters will receive their notifications for the federal election on September 26, 2025 in about a week and a half. What is surprising is the forecast by Helmut Reith, the deputy returning officer at the city's citizens' office, that up to 80,000 voters will use the postal vote option. That would be a doubling compared to the last federal election. If this estimate is correct, there could be more votes by mail than in the polling stations for the first time. This development clearly shows the growing interest in alternative choices Augsburger Allgemeine.
